Prescription Policy

Prescription Policy

PetMedsToYourHome.Ca is operated by Country Hills Pharmacy (OCP Accreditation #305301), a licensed Ontario pharmacy dispensing veterinary medications exclusively for Canadian pets. All prescription medications are dispensed under the supervision of Michael Ayad, R.Ph., Pharmacist-in-Charge.

1. Valid Veterinary Prescription Requirement

A valid veterinary prescription is required before any prescription medication is dispensed or shipped. We do not dispense prescription medications without a verified prescription from a licensed veterinarian.

A valid prescription must include:

  • Patient name (pet's name) and species
  • Prescribing veterinarian's full name, clinic name, address, and phone number
  • Veterinarian's provincial license number
  • Drug name, strength, quantity, and directions for use
  • Date of issue
  • Number of authorized refills (if applicable)
  • Veterinarian's signature

2. Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR)

We only dispense prescription medications where a valid Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) exists. This means your veterinarian must have examined your pet and established a diagnosis before issuing a prescription. We do not accept prescriptions issued solely on the basis of a telemedicine or online consultation where no prior in-person examination has occurred, unless permitted under applicable provincial veterinary regulations.

3. Accepted Prescription Formats

We accept prescriptions in the following formats:

  • Upload: Scan or photo uploaded via our Prescription Upload page
  • Fax: Sent directly from your veterinarian's clinic to 519-954-3776
  • Transfer: Transferred from another licensed Canadian pharmacy
  • Mail: Original written prescription mailed to our pharmacy

We do not accept verbal prescriptions.

4. Prescriber Verification

All prescriptions are verified by our pharmacist prior to dispensing. Verification includes confirming the prescribing veterinarian holds an active license with their provincial veterinary regulatory authority. We reserve the right to contact the prescribing veterinarian directly to confirm the validity of any prescription.

5. Prescription Expiry

In accordance with Ontario pharmacy regulations:

  • Veterinary prescriptions are valid for a maximum of one (1) year from the date of issue, unless otherwise specified by the prescribing veterinarian
  • Prescriptions with no refills remaining are considered expired and cannot be filled
  • Expired prescriptions require a new prescription from your veterinarian before we can dispense

6. Refills

Refills are only dispensed when authorized by the prescribing veterinarian on the original prescription. We do not automatically refill prescriptions. Customers will be notified when a prescription is nearing expiry or has no remaining refills. A new prescription from your veterinarian will be required to continue treatment.

7. Prescription Record Retention

All prescription records are retained for a minimum of ten (10) years in accordance with Ontario College of Pharmacists regulations and applicable provincial pharmacy legislation.

8. Drug Sourcing

All medications dispensed by PetMedsToYourHome.Ca are sourced exclusively from Health Canada-authorized Canadian licensed wholesalers and distributors. We do not source medications from outside Canada. All products are approved by Health Canada or are otherwise legally authorized for sale in Canada.

9. No Controlled Substances

PetMedsToYourHome.Ca does not dispense controlled substances as defined under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (Canada). If your pet requires a controlled substance, please consult your veterinarian for an alternative dispensing arrangement.

10. No Compounding

PetMedsToYourHome.Ca does not offer compounding services. We dispense commercially manufactured, Health Canada-approved veterinary medications only.

11. Canada-Only Dispensing

We dispense and ship within Canada only. We do not accept prescriptions from veterinarians outside Canada and do not ship medications internationally.
